On Edibles: It's Love/Hate Relationship

On Edibles: It's Love/Hate Relationship

We have all heard of or had a bad edible experience. Anyone else remember having way too much of a brownie? Here is your sweedies-approved, 101 crash-course on edibles and conscious consumption.

THC, CBD...what does it mean?

THC and CBD are two of the main components found in the cannabis plant–THC is responsible for producing the feeling of being "high". Both THC and CBD interact with the body's endocannabinoid system, which helps regulate things like pain, mood, and appetite. CBD is thought to help reduce some of the "negative" effects of THC, like anxiety or paranoia. This means that CBD and THC can work together in a to produce different effects and potentially help with certain health conditions. As a beginner, look for a 1:1 ratio of THC:CBD (and a low dose, of course!). This means a more mellow effect than a THC-heavy product.

Ok, cool. What's the difference from smoking?

When you smoke cannabis, it gets into your bloodstream pretty quickly through your lungs and can produce effects within 30 minutes to an hour. But when you eat edibles, the effects take longer to kick in–usually 30 minutes to 2 hours,  because the active compounds have to go through your digestive system first. We use a nanoemulsion, a type of cannabis product that can be absorbed by your body much faster than traditional edibles. In a nanoemulsion, the THC molecules are broken down into really tiny droplets that your body can easily absorb and process, leading to a quicker onset of effects (usually around 10-15 minutes).

This all means a few things: 1) Edibles can be a much healthier option (Yay! No inhaling smoke). 2) A nanoemulsion means a much better ability to control your dose. You feel the effects in 15 minutes, so no "wait and see" period. 3) Inconspicuous consumption- no smoke or smell means you can enjoy without drawing attention.

New to it all? Here's how we recommend approaching edibles:

If you're new to cannabis and interested in trying edibles, there are a few important things to keep in mind for a safe and fun experience. Firstly, start with a lower dose - around 2.5-5 milligrams of THC. Second, look for a product that uses a nanoemulsion- quicker onset period means more control over your experience!

We spent 2.5 years ensuring our first product, Mood Rings, was the antidote to the traditional "edible" experience. One pouch contains 10 (!!!) gummies that each contain 0.5mg of THC and CBD. Enjoy the entire pouch for a mellow 5mg dose, or split with a friend for a mild buzz. It's 2023–we're consciously consuming, not eating brownies in your parents basement anymore!
